The Duncan Middle School tennis teams took first and third in last week’s tournament at the tennis courts in Duncan.
The DMS teams played against other middle schools that came to compete. The tournament lasted from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In all, DMS brought two boys’ teams and two girls’ teams. One boys’ team and one girls’ team placed first, while the other boys’ team and the other girls’ team placed third.
Seventh-grade player Jeremy Able played No. 2 singles for one of the teams. Able said he played to expectations and thought he prepared well for the tournament.
“I think [I was, but] I didn’t expect the new way to set a tiebreaker though,” he said. “All in all, I think I was prepared enough to go through the tournament.”
Able also has thoughts on being a singles player instead of doubles.
“I was able to be a singles player, but I think I would have helped the team more if I was a doubles player,” he said.
In addition to this tournament, the DMS tennis players also competed in another tournament last week, that one taking place in Norman. The tournament was originally scheduled for Pauls Valley before its move.
