Duncan Middle School Band didn’t just start a new school year; it started a new band season.
Band members already have a lot to start working on. They have started practices. Some of the members talked about what they are expecting for this coming year.
Nicole Pollock, of the eighth-grade band, provided advice for the new sixth grade band. Dawn and Jeramy Haas are this year’s band directors.
“Once you get past all of the hard work, you’ll never want it to end,” Pollock said.
Braiden Gregory and McKenzie Novak, both of the eighth-grade band, said that working hard this year is important.
“I would consider this as a career,” Gregory said.
“One of my musical inspirations is Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy,” Novak said.
Both said they are trying out for the Oklahoma All-Region Band this year.
Some of the band members said they are excited about the new sixth-grade band, but were concerned whether it would happen.
There were rumors about cutting the sixth-grade band because of budget restrictions last year. The sixth-grade academics program was canceled this year for that reason. However, the sixth-grade band gets to play on.
