The kick-off dance is coming up, but it is having a few troubles.
Because of COVID-19 with these last few years, Duncan Middle School hasn’t had a school dance. With the hopes of a school dance, students are getting excited.
Recently, DMS administration chose to postponed the upcoming kick-off dance, which was originally set for Friday.
Some students expressed their disappointment in the dance’s postponement.
Kreed Berry, a sixth-grade student, said he was excited about the school dance and hopes the dance can happen soon.
“I have already asked someone to the dance, and I bet this dance will be fun,” Berry said.
He said he was disappointed in the dance didn’t happen on Friday.
Berry wasn’t alone in looking forward to the school dance.
Jacob Conn, an eighth-grade student, said, “I am disappointed about the school dance being postponed and wish that the dance would be happening this week.”
Conn said he wasn’t originally aware of the dance and hadn’t gotten around to asking anyone.
The dance was set to have a Hawaiian theme and is supposed to be a fundraiser for the DMS office. Additionally, National Junior Honor Society signed up to run the concessions, and journalism was going to set up a photo booth.
“It’s kind of dumb how it’s postponed because we didn’t have one last year,” Raelyn Crow, seventh-grade student, said. “So it’s kind of disappointing.”
Crow planned to go to the kick-off dance with friends.
Brooklynn Pruitt, another seventh-grade student, said she was nervous about the dance.
“I am going with only friends this year, not with anyone,” Pruitt said.
As of now, another date has not been set for the kick-off dance. Student Council and NJHS are also planning dances for later in the school year, but whether those dances will happen remains to be seen.
