At Duncan Middle School, there are three counselors, one of which is Barbra Davis. Davis tells us what it’s like being a counselor. Davis said “ Being a counselor is a ruffling job but it’s more than just a job, It’s a big responsibility. It gives me a great perspective. I love to listen and support people. I want to encourage hard discussions too. Life is a mixture of highs and lows, being a counselor is a very hard job”. She’s always overworked but who isn’t? “I just make sure to practice self-care”. Davis also said “it’s a way of looking at life, it gives me a great perspective”. Barbra loves to listen and support people. “I want to celebrate the good things and encourage the hard discussions too, life is a mixture of highs and lows,” says Davis. Ms. Davis has an open mind, “if I didn’t have an open mind I would be a terrible counselor, it’s all about acceptance and not judging. until you walk a mile in someone’s shoes, never judge and always listen. It’s amazing what students teach me”. Barbra works hard everyday motivating students, and apreciating them.
Being a counselor is a very hard job, but so far it seems to be a great thing for some people. Encouraging others to have a better perspective on life, or making people feel better even after having a hard day at home, Barbra Davis is always open to having a heart-to-heart conversation.
