So as everyone knows, Covid has been going around for 2+ years. Covid has caused many issues worldwide. Since last year, students and staff have been wearing masks to protect themselves and others but Recently, masks have become optional. Since then, not many kids wear masks. We interviewed a few students and Mr. Hightower, a vice-principal, to understand their opinions about masks.
An 8th-grade student, Felipe Villareal, expressed his opinions about masks. Villareal said that he personally doesn’t wear a mask, but he still respects the people that do. He said, “ I would be disappointed if we go back to wearing a mask, but if I look bad that day I would be glad if we had masks.”
Christopher Bewley, a 6th-grade student, wears a mask to school to protect a close family member. He states that “he loves and hates masks at the same time. It’s a love/hate relationship.” Bewley also said, “if masks do make a return, it won’t affect me as much.”
A vice-principal, Tim Hightower, explains why he wears a mask every day. Hightower says it depends on the circumstances, and he has always wanted to protect his son as most as possible. Tim said, “that we would have to keep a close eye on the numbers, then we can protect the students.”
These are a few opinions from people important to this school. Mask has definitely been the main talk here at Duncan Middle School over the past few years. Mask has been used to protect others and themselves from Covid. Everyone here at DMS is hoping for others to stay safe!
