On March 2, National Junior Honor Society participated in Read Across America, where they went into area elementary schools to read to students.
In the morning, eighth-grade students read to kindergarten and first-grade students at Woodrow Wilson, Plato and Horace Mann elementary schools. Seventh-grade students went to Mark Twain Elementary in the morning. In total, about 30 NJHS members took part in Read Across America.
Logan Sanders, seventh-grade NJHS member, was among the students who got to participate.
“It was fun to read to the kids,” Sanders said.
Read Across America is a national program, and it’s something the Duncan Middle School NJHS organization takes part in each year.
Lucy Spoering, seventh-grade, said she was excited to take part in Read Across America.
“I liked the experience, but I wish we read more books,” Spoering said.
Seventh-grade NJHS member Devan Johnson said he was glad to get to take part in the annual program.
“I thought it was pretty cool,” Johnson said. “Reading to the kids put a smile on their faces.”
