Sherry McGhghy is the seventh and eighth grade Academic Team adviser.
“I think we have a really good group this year,” McGhghy said.
The academic practice is mostly before school Thursday mornings. The first competition has not been determined yet.
“We will more than likely be going to state, and regionals,” MgGhghy said.
McGhghy provided advice for this year’s sixth-graders who may want to try out for the seventh-grade team next year.
“Try out. It’s not just about how smart you are. As long as you are mature and dependable you have a good chance of making the team.”
The team wants people who know a lot about Duncan Middle school sports. They also like people who love to read.
Eight kids are allowed on a team for their grade level. In all, 14 eighth-graders tried out for the academic team and 19 seventh-graders all vied for the select spots.
Over the course of the next few days, McGhghy will announce who the team members are.
