The third nine weeks of the semester started when students and teachers returned to school following Christmas Break.
This nine weeks (the third quarter) has a lot going on.
Yes, there’s plenty of classroom instruction and preparation for state testing. But a lot of things happening extend outside of the classroom.
The third quarter is the time between the start of January and Spring Break, which last about 2 and a half months. During this time, students only get a one day break, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
With only one day off from school, aside from any possible weather days, students and teachers will have more classroom instruction time than the other three quarters.
With the start of the new quarter comes the start of new sports seasons, including track, soccer, tennis and golf. The sports season starts with old memories of practices, playing and the competition.
Some of the sports will see new faces and new coaches, and others will continue their tradition of success.
With the end of Christmas Break, students returned to the classroom to be educated and to participate in the many things happening at Duncan Middle School, including various clubs and organization events.
There will also be different competitions, including the band contest, and solos and ensemble contest. The band contest is scheduled for Feb. 23, and the band solos and ensembles contest is this Saturday.
On Friday, the Association of Duncan Educators will be hosting the annual Legislative Breakfast. This breakfast, which is also sponsored by the Duncan Educational Support Association and the Duncan Legislative Team, allows Duncan teachers to interact with their legislators, who are invited each year.
This Saturday, Boy Scout Troop 4417 will host its annual pancake breakfast. Those who purchase tickets can get as much food as they want. Tickets will be available at the door or through a boy scout. Tickets are less expensive when purchased in advance.
With so much happening this quarter and the lack of a substantial break, many students and teachers will be looking forward to Spring Break.
