Duncan Middle School students got their W.I.N. taken away, all grades are spending their W.I.N. time in their first-hour class. Three Duncan Middle School students, two seventh graders, and one-eighth graders were interviewed about how this has affected them. Seventh and eighth graders also got their phone privileges taken.
Alex Alvarado, an eighth-grade student, was interviewed about her opinion on this. “Pretty annoyed really,” Alverardo answers. Although she is annoyed she will take this opportunity to catch up on her missing work and thinks that this will encourage other students to do their missing work. Alex does not think that the eighth and seventh graders deserved to get their phones taken. She does not think that taking away cell phones will help to cyber bully.
Fabian Villareal is a seventh grader at Duncan Middle School who was also interviewed. Villareal hates not having WIN. “It’s not fair, I have good grades,” Villareal says. He will not take this opportunity to catch up on work because he is already all caught up on his work. He is upset that his phone privileges were taken away because now there is not much to do for lunch. He was asked if he thinks that getting phone privileges taken away will help stop cyberbullying. He says, “No, not at all,” but he does think that having our WIN taken away will encourage other students to do their work.
Azul Martinez, another seventh grader was interviewed about her thoughts on this. She also hates not having WIN for a week. Martinez was asked if seventh and eighth graders deserved to get their phones taken away, “I think we should be able to use them,” she says. She also thinks that the cyberbullying issue will not be stopped if we get our phones taken. She says that people will still make accounts.
