The eighth-grade Duncan Middle School Demons beat the Elgin Owls on Tuesday night, with a score 38 to 8.
It was the DMS Demons first game of the year, and their record is 1 and 0. That’s a better start than the previous year, where the team won only game, the final game of the season.
Jaxon Merchant, an eighth-grade player for the Demons, said he was excited with this underdog win.
“Elgin’s defense was not very great, and their offense is sloppy,” Merchant said.
Some of the players interviewed for the pre-game were not sure if they could pull off a win based on how they lost last year.
Merchant also said, “The hardest part of the game was getting the snaps right.”
There was a short celebration after the big win, and now the Duncan Demons are looking to pull of more big wins like that more often.
The seventh-grade team did not have the success their eighth-grade counterparts did. The team lost their first game of the season with the Owls besting them 38 to 0.
The next DMS football game is set to start at 5 p.m. Tuesday against Lawton Ike.
