Special education teacher, Terry Evans, is retiring. Terry Evans, one of Duncan Middle School’s special education teachers, is retiring after this semester. She has been teaching for 35 years and she said that she is leaving to focus on being a grandmother to her grandchildren Wyatt and William.
During 2021 one of the 6th grade English teachers, Cindy Bradburry, suffered an injury and was in the hospital. Evans, still being a substitute teacher, had been subbing for Bradburry most of the semester. Josh Whipple, an 8th grade student, said, “I feel very sad about Ms. Evans leaving because she was the best English substitute teacher I have ever had.”
After subbing at Duncan Middle School for many years, she decided to become a teacher for special education students. Cindy Bradburry said, “I feel that the students she teaches now will be sad and upset when she leaves.” Whipple also said he thinks they will be upset when she leaves.
After She leaves there will need to be a new teacher to take her spot. Duncan Middle School has decided to have Randy Hynson from Texas take her place as he has 30-plus years of experience teaching. Josh Whipple said, “I wish she would stay as a teacher even though I don’t see her every day.”
He hopes she has a great time with her grandchildren and will maybe visit back at the school. Even though she doesn’t always get to the other students she said, “I will miss all of the students I teach now and taught before because they are the reason I continued to do my job and be the best teacher I can be.”
Although some people do not want her to leave, Cindy Bradburry said, “Many of the students and staff will miss her but if she is ready to leave teaching she should because it is her decision.”
