Coming into the winter season students and teachers are layering up on their clothing. So everyone needs a coat. However, some kids can’t afford to buy a coat or find time to go buy a coat. So, Duncan Middle School has a helpful fundraiser held by the Duncan Middle School student council. Anyone can donate to the Duncan Middle School coat drive and anyone can take a coat.
Bubba Clark, one of the DMS counselors, said, “I am very grateful because kids need the coats during this season. Student council donating these coats to the coat drive is very beneficial because the kids get to have new coats and they see that other people care for them.”
Ruby Miller, the president of the student council, said, “It felt an honor to be able to donate these coats, that cold kids can get coats.” In Duncan Middle School we have a clothes closet set up for kids who need an extra pair of clothing in any matter, we have a coat drive to add to our helping measure for students in DMS.
During the cold weather, some kids don’t have any accessories or warm clothing for the cold weather. This makes it so that kids can’t go outside or do activities outside of a building, but if they do they would be cold and couldn’t do what they needed to do. Student Council’s reporter, Conner Nelson, said, “ I feel good about donating the coats because it is nice to the kids.” He went on to say, “It is beneficial because some kids don’t have good coats or no coats at all, and it is a good thing to do.”
Derrick Miller, the student council advisor, said “I would like to make this coat drive an annual event for DMS students.” Due to this every year, a kid could get a brand new coat and they would not have to worry about being cold during an event thanks to the DMS student council.
