Vocal music students are currently preparing for their upcoming Christmas concert performance.
All-Region Choir students, the Pitchforks Honor Choir members and students in all other levels of choir at Duncan Middle School are preparing for their upcoming Christmas Concert. The concert will start at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Simmons Center.
“Choir is a fun program for students to be able to do,” Zoe Lewis, a member of the Pitchforks, said. “It’s very fun for me and probably everyone else.”
This year, the Pitchforks have performed several times, including during the Veterans Day assembly Nov. 10. However, the upcoming Christmas concert will be a first for the sixth-grade choir students. The concert will showcase with the sixth-grade have learned this year, as they perform for their parents and for the community.
Leading up to the concert, students have been rehearsing and practicing.
Thursday’s choir concert follows a similarly-themed concert hosted by the Duncan Bands on Monday. However, that concert featured not just middle school but also high school band students. That concert was also livestreamed by Duncan Public Schools.
Aubree Moore, another eighth-grader, is also a member of the Pitchforks. Moore said said she enjoys choir and is looking forward to the Christmas concert.
She said she usually feels nervous when the choir performs on stage.
Moore and Lewis said they are both planning to continue with choir when they get to high school next year.
As such, this will be their last Christmas concert at Duncan Middle School.
The choirs are under direction of Courtney Miles and Cara Peyton, the DMS choir teachers.
Thursday’s concert will feature performances from all levels of middle school performers, while helping get the audience members into the Christmas spirit.
