Last week, Duncan Middle School held a basketball tournament for the 7th-grade girls and boys. A tournament is a competition where teams keep participating as long as they win, with the ultimate winner being the team that emerges victorious. Basketball has been a popular sport at Duncan Middle School for a long time.
Jen Lino, a 7th-grade boy’s basketball player, shared that the tournament was a great experience for their team, but they needed to work on their offense. Despite losing, Lino felt that the tournament was fun and showed that their team had a lot of heart.
Similarly, Arielle Rodriguez, a 7th-grade girls’ basketball player, said, “The game was a horrible but valuable learning experience.” She also said, “We could have played better in their positions and that the game did not reflect their true potential.”
Collins Budosky is another 7th-grade basketball player. Budosky says “The game was upstanding we didn’t win. It was a great competition because we got to play smaller schools.” She goes on to say, “ In the beginning, we were really upset but we had practice the next Sunday and had a good game this week” She also said her team wasn’t working together because they were working individually.
Jasper Link is also a 7th-grade boy’s basketball player. Link says “ The tournament was good, fun, and we had a great time.” He goes on to say, “ We were down when we lost but we kept working as a team and kept going” He also says, “ I think we could’ve improved ourselves by playing better and keeping our head up.”
Allison Cruz is another 7th-grade girl’s basketball player. Cruz says “ The game went okay, I guess.” She goes on to say “ Our team could’ve tried a lot harder and kept our heads up more.” She also said the game made them realize how hard it is to play without a teammate.
Mackenzie Oldfield is a boy’s basketball manager. Oldfield says “ The game was tiring, long, and stressful.” She goes on to say “ The team could’ve changed a lot of things. They lost 5 to 60 and they need to be more focused on what the coach is saying.” She also said the game reflected on their team a lot because it made them look small and that they couldn’t win the games. She said, “ We haven’t won a game yet and we need to try a lot harder and I know we can beat so many teams.”
