Shannon Rose, Duncan Middle School resource teacher, was chosen as the teacher of the game for the Oklahoma City Thunder game. After being elected as teacher of the year for Duncan Middle School she signed up for teacher of the state. Rose was then chosen as the teacher of the game and was alerted through email.
She said, “I was very excited to have been chosen but I almost missed the email because I had originally thought it was spam.” The Thunder Game occurred during winter break, and Shannon said she was very anxious about it. Before the game started Shannon got to experience special catering and food for the teachers before the game.
Shannon Rose said, “I was very excited and honored to have gotten such treatment and recognition for my hard work.” During the game, she was taken down from her seat to get recognized in the middle of the court. After being mentioned as the teacher of the game Shannon also mentioned Rodney Strutton as he was also there.
She said that she was grateful for how much work he puts in for all of the teachers and he is the reason she is where she is right now. Shannon also said, “I am very humbled and honored but I do believe that everyone deserves recognition for their hard work and effort.”
After she was mentioned she got moved down to a seat on the sidelines of the court to watch the game. At the game, they had more than just basketball such as cheerleading and acrobatics. After the game, Shannon received an award that consisted of a plaque a VIP pass, and a lunch box.
Shannon Rose said, “ I am so grateful to have won this title and these awards and I would love to be back again.”
