Starting in a few weeks, the DMS Band will be doing a mattress sale as a way to support their new fundraiser in order to get money. The Duncan Band is partnering with Chris Brobst, the salesman for the mattresses who is helping the Band get money for their 11th Annual sale. This not only includes the Middle School Band participating in the fundraiser, but also the High School Band helping by getting people to sign and buy mattresses from the company. The band director, Jeramy Haas, has collaborated with the business for years and makes sure that each purchase goes to the funding of the band even when it comes to the supplies and equipment the band students need for certain things. Dawn Haas, and Rocio Garcia, the other band directors are also participating in assisting Jeramy with this event while also practicing with the current music the students are doing.
Jeramy Haas said, “It helps because the Duncan Band Boosters can raise money for the Middle School and High School Band. It gives them instruments, supplies, and meals. This fundraiser is one of the two fundraisers we’re doing for this year that currently raises money for our students.”
Two 6th-grade students who participate in the band, Bryan Shabeoi, a Trombone player, and Corben Purcell, a Percussionist, feel that this fundraiser they’ve done for the first time gives the benefit.
“It helps with the fundraisers the band has done before, even though this is my first time doing it,” Shabeoi said.
Purcell also agrees, saying that it helps with raising money for possible field trips or requirements that they may need.
The fundraiser will take place in the DMS Cafeteria, having people come and buy the mattresses on January 27th and being able to have the company raise finance.
