Starting this year later in February, 8th Graders who are graduating from the Middle School on May 23rd, and becoming the new freshmen at Duncan High School, will be able to attend an event that lets them check out the clubs that they can join and get information about it based on their interest.
This event will involve students and parents, which lets the parents know what the school expects from their kids when they become DHS students. Staff members, such as Counselors and Principals will also give out information about the different types of classes that the students can join or even participate in.
However, there are certain things that they need to know, such as how their credit score will need to be to graduate. This will also involve a tour around the campus to make sure that 8th Graders can have a smooth transition from middle school to high school so they make sure to know where classes are.
Christy Glasscock is the Principal of the Duncan Middle School and has made the event for the students to be able to enjoy it.
Glasscock said, “It’s a good thing this event is happening, excellent even. This has not happened in several years at our school and it helps the 8th Graders.”
She also said that the students may feel nervous about it even when going to new places, but they still need to be able to attend this event. It helps them become better prepared for it if they get confused, but it’ll still assist them for the new school year starting in August after the graduation ceremony.
The event will start inside the school for the Duncan High School on the 27th of February, and students attending will have to attend before 5:00 as the times for this will take place from 5:15 to 6:45 on a Tuesday evening.
