Recently, the DMS academic team went to a competition and won.
Trent Livingston, one of the 8th-grade academic team members, says they are excited about the win because they get to compete for the state. Livingston also says “I gave it my all with my team and that’s the reason we secured 1st place.” He also says that he feels proud because his team did it all without Jack Lovett, one of the 8th-grade academic team members.
Keller Atchley, another 8th-grade academic team member, says that he feels great about getting first place because it opens up a lot of opportunities and also allows him to represent Duncan as a state. Atchley also feels, “I did the best I could, and now that gives us a chance to be the best in the state.” He also says that he is proud that they got first place. He also quoted Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Sally Wheeler, one of the coaches for the academic team, says “I am very proud of them and they all worked very hard to get the win and I think they are going to continue to do great.” Wheeler says that they did their best because they were down a teammate so there were no substitutions, the team had to play for the entire event. She also thinks they all did their best equally and said, “It’s like telling me to pick a favorite child, they all have their strengths and weaknesses.”
Davis Wheeler, one of the 8th-grade academic team members, says “It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, and we destroyed them and we also went undefeated.” Davis also says that it was nice to win and get first place, they didn’t get first place last year so it’s fulfilling to win against them this year.
