The DMS Showcase returned for its second year last week and provided a highlight of what students have done throughout the year.
The showcase, which was Feb. 22, provided an invitation to parents and students for an after-hours exploration of the middle school. Parents were able to see what their students have been doing this school year with many projects, crafts and other works on display.
Many students were present to walk their parents through the school, starting with the commons and move around the library and toward the STEM classrooms. Each of the subject areas had something on display, from projects coming from art classes to items hung on the way from the eighth-grade English classes.
The evening started with performances by the Demon Pitchforks Honor Choir and the Duncan Middle School Honor Band.
Addison Rowell, an eighth-grade student, said the showcase is a ways to show the positive things happening at school.
“The DMS showcase is a good way to show kids achievements,” Rowell said. “The DMS showcase lets parents see what is going on at school.”
Along with the Evening of Excellence, the DMS Showcase was added to the slate of events at Duncan Middle School in the 2022-23 school year. Both of these programs focused on students successes.
The Evening of Excellence will be March 7.
Kaylee Thomas, a seventh-grade students, said she thinks events, such as the DMS Showcase are important and should continue each year.
“The DMS showcase lets the parents know that we are doing something,” Thomas said.
Peyton Williams, another seventh-grade student, had similar thoughts. Williams performed with the Honor Choir, as the choir members performed the songs “Best Song Ever” and “I Want It That Way.”
“I think the DMS Showcase helps our school because it is a good way to show parents how great we are,” Williams said.
