This year at Duncan Middle School, the forecasting weather truck that tracks things like storms traveled to DMS to present how the weather affects people. The students got to look inside the storm tracker truck and learn about the weather and tools they use to determine storms.
6th-grade English teacher Cindy Bradbury said, “It was very different and interesting. Duncan Middle School has never really had visitors like the storm tracker guys, so it was pretty cool to see and learn about.”
Not only did the 6th-grade students get to see the storm tracker and learn about it, but all of the 6th-grade teachers and other staff members got the opportunity to see the storm tracker truck as well.
Bradbury said, “The attendance for 6th-grade students has been declining lately, so I think that it is good that we do cool things like this because it encourages students to come to school, and it also keeps the students that are attending excited to go and see cool stuff. I think doing stuff like this will help attendance.”
When the meteorologists came, they talked about some of the requirements needed to do their job and what all the job entails. She said, “They talked about the science and math involved with being a storm tracker person they also gave some information about how you would be a meteorologist and talked about what you do for a living and just all the things they deal with.”
6th-grade math teacher Julie Leippe was also there during the presentation, Leippe said, “I liked the storm tracker people coming. I thought it was pretty cool to see and check out.” She went on to say, “They talked about meteorologists and what you would need to do to be on the storm tracking side of meteorology.”
