Earlier in the year, the special education teacher, Terry Evans retired. Randy Hynson was hired and has stepped in to teach the special education class at DMS. Many teachers teach the Special education class, however, Hyson is the newest addition.
He previously taught in Snyder Texas and was a special needs teacher for the school. In Texas, he was also a softball coach, head football coach, and athletic director.
Randy Hynson, one of the special education teachers, says that teaching this class has its challenges but watching them succeed is such a reward it’s worth it. Hynson also says what they do in the class is math, ELA, social studies, and other subjects. He also says, “The kids normally show up when they’re interested in what they’re learning most of the time anyway.”
He said, “It’s great to teach at DMS because I graduated from Duncan and I’m glad I can give back to the community that helped me grow up.” He says he became a special needs teacher because he feels like he can make a difference in the world by helping people.
Sonia Norton, one of the special needs teachers at DMS says, “Mr. Hynson has a lot of experience and he used to be a coach and also he used to teach in Texas. Mr. Hynson was also in the Navy.” Another one of the special needs teachers says that she is glad he is here at DMS and she appreciates people who like teaching kids in general.
Mike Ryan, one of the principals at DMS says Mr. Hynson is a good teacher because he spends time with kids. Ryan also thinks he is a hard worker and is willing to help the kids when he needs to. He thinks Mr. Hynson is “very friendly and dependable.”
