Starting in April is the state testing for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. All schools in the state of Oklahoma take the test, the middle school is one of them. The state tests will end in May, making the 6th graders do it last. The school board has already planned out dates and times for when students should take their test, during the morning and on certain days for when they might have to finish one before they can do the other, giving extra time to students.
The schedule has the 8th graders take their Science test on April 18th, the Math test on the 22nd, the ELA test on the 23rd, and a writing test on the 24th. Afterward, 7th graders will be next taking a Math test on the 25th and an ELA test on the 29th. 6th graders finish it off with their ELA test on April 30th and end it on May 1st on their Math test.
Two 6th graders, Harleigh Carleighnall and Brooklyn Richards, who have already taken some state testing before, have given their thoughts about it.
Carleighnall said, “I think the schedule seems fine the way it is, but I feel like while you’re taking a certain test you should go to the subject that it’s for. Like taking a math test and then going to a math class for it.”
Carleighnall also said that it can be stressful to take a test, especially if you don’t know how you did on it.
“The schedule does help balance when students should take the test, but I am nervous for when it comes up,” Richards said.
People will be starting to stay in their 1st hour, people who are finished then some others may have to stay in their class regardless until everyone in their grade section is completed with one of the tests they take on one of these days.
