Every year Duncan Middle school has a dodgeball tournament on the last two days of school. Students at DMS can sign up to participate and raise money for the student council. Students that choose to participate get to choose team names, and dress up in costumes if they choose to, as long as the costumes are in accordance with the dress code. Students compete in dodgeball, and every game the team wins, they continue to advance until the last game between the two final teams, to decide who will be the 2023-24 school year dodgeball champions.
Lyndley Morgan is an 8th grade student at DMS, Morgan is a part of the team “Super Dodgers.” She said, “For our team uniforms, we are wearing super hero masks and capes.” She went on to say, “This year, I chose to be on a dodgeball team because I’m in the 8th grade, and this is my last year of middle school, so I might as well have fun. However, the overall goal is to win. My strategy for winning is to stand in the back so that I don’t get hit, because if I don’t get out, then there will still be at least one person on our team standing.”
Blaze Black is another 8th grader at DMS, Black is also participating in dodgeball this year. His team’s name will be “The Boys in Black.” They will be wearing black for their uniforms. He said, “Our goal is to play hard and win. I love participating in this event because I love playing in the annual dodgeball tournament because it is fun.” He went along to say, “My strategy to win is to catch the dodgeballs, dodge the dodgeballs, and throw the dodgeballs and get other people out. I think that we have a really good chance of winning this year because we have a really good team of kids who play baseball and who can throw hard, and catch fast.”
In conclusion, the annual dodgeball tournament is a fundraiser that the student council puts on to raise money for the next term, and it is also a way that students can get involved and play dodgeball to commemorate the school year and not be in class for the last two days of school.
