On Tuesday, the DMS Broadcast Club took the show on the road.
Twelve members of the club and the two club sponsors traveled to KSWO (News Channel 7 in Lawton) to observe and ask questions about about the career field.
“One of the news directors of KSWO contacted us over Facebook,” Derrick Miller, club sponsor, said. “She had seen what we have been doing and wanted to invite us to tour.”
Many DMS students, inside and outside the club, found the trip exciting. With frequent updates to the school’s online newspaper’s Instagram account, students were able to follow the progress of the group’s journey.
“I think it’s good for them to learn more about what they are doing as a club,” eighth-grader Alyssa Childers said.
After the trip, the club was amazed. Many found it both fun and educational. Students said they learned that it is OK to make mistakes and to just go with it. Students took the information they learned to help improve their own broadcasts.
During the visit, students learned a lot about the business and how to incorporate it into the club to move it forward.
Club members expressed excitement and pride after being noticed for their accomplishments.
