Duncan Middle School’s Green Club isn’t just for those who have a green thumb. Instead, the club offers a way for students to get involved in their school.
The club meets during Late Start Mondays, where they discuss club business. On many Tuesday’s after school, club members put discussion to action when they work in the garden, whether permitting, of course.
About 30 to 40 people attend the Monday meetings regularly. About 1/4 to 1/3 of those students attend the work days in the garden.
Julian Sorrenson, Green Club vice president, said he enjoys being part of the Green Club.
“It helps our school out,” Sorrenson said.
Sorrenson, a seventh-grader at DMS and his younger sister, sixth-grader Anavrin, were among the people who helped in the garden during the last work day. Many of the club officers attend all of the work days, but they’re often joined by other members who attend regularly, too.
In addition to gardening, the club is also setting its sights on creating a recycling program at DMS.
The club is open to students of all grades.
