DMS soccer has recently started and went to their first pre-season tournament.
Maren Turkett is a girl’s 8th-grade soccer player. Turkett has been involved in soccer for 10 years and plays defense, left-back, or right-back.
She says “For last week’s tournament I was looking forward to playing the teams and seeing how different it was from last year and playing with the new 7th graders.”
She says, “Usually before games we pray, and before I get on the field I take a deep breath.” She also says if she ever makes a mistake during a game she just tells herself it’s okay and she is playing with her teammates. She says “ I think we are going to do well like last year”
Addison Rannberg is another 8th-grade girls’ soccer player. Rannberg has been involved in soccer since she was four. She is a striker.
She says “When I’m trying to handle the pressure of big games I pray about it and take it slow and not get tensed up”
She said, “Last week’s tournament no one scored on us and it wasn’t a tournament it was just helping us communicate and pass better so it was just like a practice tournament kind of like a lot of scrimmages.” She said she keeps herself motivated during games by just working and telling herself to get better. She also says, “ I think our team is going to do well this year and communicate better.”
Keigan DeCarlo is another 8th-grade girls’ soccer player. DeCarlo has been involved in soccer for 10 years and has been playing since she was four. She plays anywhere on the defensive line. Mainly center back.
She says “ I don’t let myself get down at games. I just don’t think about it and go with the flow and think about it later.” She says, “ Something that keeps me motivated during games is thinking about how it’s going to pay off in the future.”
She states “ I think this year we are going to do good and most likely go undefeated like last year.”
Reighan Wikoff is another 8th-grade girls’ soccer player. Wikoff has been involved in soccer for 3 years and she plays center back.
She says “I was looking forward to bonding with the team and getting to know them a lot better since it’s my first year at the tournament.”
She said “ At the tournament, we won every game and beat teams by a lot and went on the bus cause it was cold and we ate a lot” She goes by saying “ The tournament was super fun and the way I kept myself motivated is I ate and listen to music and talk with my teammates” She says, “Good, we are doing well so far”
