Last week, the Duncan Middle School choir teachers held auditions for the choir program’s upcoming musical.
The last day of auditions took place Thursday. However, the audition dates were held over from the previous week, when they were originally scheduled. The auditions were rescheduled because of virtual days and a snow day.
“This is a little different than what we usually do, it’s more of a concert of popular songs from different musicals,” Courtney Miles, choir teacher, said.
This year’s program is “MTI’s Broadway Junior Review.” Auditions took place after school in the choir room.
Miles said there will be a lot of talent in the show, based off what she saw in auditions.
“Pretty much everyone (made these auditions),” she said.
Last year’s musical was “A Year with Frog and Toad.”
Several students auditioned for the show.
Olivia Haddox, a sixth-grader, was among the students who tried out for the show.
“I signed up because it’s an extra activity,” Haddox said. “It will look good in college.”
She said she’s been in productions before. She said the show is important to her because she eager to be part of the show and because it will help her earn a merit badge for Girl Scouts.
“Yes, I am (excited),” Haddox said.
Vanessa Aburto, another sixth-grader, also auditioned for the musical, even though she hadn’t done anything like it before.
“I wanted to sign up because of my best friend,” Aburto said.
She said she was excited about the play, and although she isn’t a lead character, she isn’t a background character either.
“(This play is about) a mix of a bunch of different musicals,” Aburto said.
Tre Wever is another sixth-grader who tried out for the DMS musical.
“(I signed up) because the last time I did a play, it was pretty cool,” Wever said. “It’s about where you do auditions and they’ll see if you’re good enough.”
