Melanie Harris has been through several career changes, but she has finally found her calling.

Harris is the new seventh-grade math teacher at Duncan Middle School this year. Before becoming a teacher, she was in the Navy, working as an Army contractor and was in customer service for an airline.
Harris enjoys teaching a lot because she love math and she loves teaching math to her students.
And her students love her, too.
Addie Coffee, a seventh-grade student, said she finds the class interesting because Harris is relatable.
Coffee also likes math and enjoys having the class with her friends. She said the best part about the math class is that it’s about math, which she loves and everything about it.
Seventh-grader Landon Moore also likes math.
Moore said Harris is his favorite teacher because she is fun and a good teacher. He also likes the class because he can talk and work together with his classmates and friends.
Another student in her class, Cameron McGinnis, enjoys her class and thinks it is fun because of Harris’s personality since it makes the class a fun class. The thing that he thinks makes the class the best is Harris.
Not all kids who like having Harris as a teacher necessarily enjoy math as a subject.
Other seventh-grade students Zabry Ross and Jantz Link said math isn’t their favorite subject, but they still enjoy being in her class.
Both of them said they enjoy the opening seating, which gives them a chance to sit with their friends.
Ross said she likes Harris, but said she doesn’t like the subject. She does however enjoy getting food and sitting with her friends during class.
Link finds math difficult, which makes it one of his least favorite subject, but he does like Harris. He said he doesn’t have a favorite teacher, but likes them all equally.
