Golf is a spring sport at Duncan Middle School running from February to April—the DMS team practices at their home course, Duncan Golf and Tennis Club. The student-athletes practice from 2:10 to 3:30 right now, and as the season continues the practices will run longer.
Lilly Thomas is an 8th-grade golf player. Thomas has been playing golf since she was little. Her Father, Stephen Thomas is the high school boys golf coach, so he can help her learn the mechanics of her swing and better her course management so she scores well.
She states “ I take double lessons with my friend Berkley, we are taught by Dakota Hicks, the head Golf Pro at Duncan Golf and Tennis Club. She said, “ I think taking lessons with Dakota helps my game, and helps me improve as a player.” She also says “Right before I swing, I think about what I have been practicing. ” She continues by saying “ While we are at practice, our girls don’t wear uniforms. We just follow the course dress code. However, if we are in a tournament, we wear matching collared shirts and skirts.”
Lizzy Holmes is another 8th-grade Golf player
Holmes said, “When I was younger, my dad encouraged me to do golf, and eventually I started to like it. She says “My favorite club in my bag would have to be my 7 iron. I like this club because I feel comfortable swinging with it, and I can use it for many different shots.” Shel goes on to say, “ Before I swing I like to think about following through the swing and keeping my spine angle so that I have good ball striking.” She also says “ One famous golf player who has really inspired me is Tiger Woods. He’s a great golfer and very inspirational. I love watching him play, and it is very inspiring to see him not get angry when he hits a bad shot.”
