Girls golf played the front 9 holes at Duncan Golf and Tennis Club. Middle school varsity girls placed 1st at the tournament. The team that came the closest to beating Duncan, lost to the girls by 36 strokes. Teams from all across Oklahoma and Texas came to compete in the Duncan 2024 invitational tournament, including schools like CCS, Texas Private Schools, Marlow, Comanche, and the Duncan girls. The tournament was open to all girls from 6th to 9th grade. A total of 59 middle school and junior high girls competed.
Shylee Orr is an 8th-grade varsity golfer. Orr said, “In the tournament, I shot 61 and my team won overall.” She went on to say, “Something I wish I did differently was practice more and not hit a squirrel next time.” She says “I plan my shots on a new course by looking at the fairway to see where green is, then I plan how to hit it.” When she plays against strong winds she hits it low. She explains “The only time I change out my balls is when I lose one but if not I keep it.”
Adisyn Harty is an 8th-grade JV golfer, Harty said, “I shot 69 and I got 49th place. Something she wishes she did differently was staying focused. She says “I plan my shots on a new course by trying to figure out where I need to swing and try not to focus on the other people there, I also look at the distance and see which club I need to use” She states “I change out my ball if I can’t find it or it ends up in the water, which happens a lot for me.”
Kaylee Thomas is a 7th-grade Varsity golfer, Thomas said, “I plan my shots on a new course by finding the distance from the hole to my ball.” She explains “I play against strong winds by using my farthest club.” She doesn’t normally change out her golf balls unless they end up in the water or it’s just dirty. She said, “I got 1st place for 7th grade, I shot a 50 and our team got 1st overall.” She says “I wish I planned my shots better because it costs me a couple of strokes.
The Varsity team that took 1st place is comprised of 5 girls. Lily Thomas is 1st bag, Berkley Morris is 2nd bag, Shylee Orr is 3rd bag, Kaylee thomas is 4th bag, and Olivia Edwards is 5th bag.
