I think allowing students to participate in two sports per season offers a multitude of benefits that helps their improvement.
Current policies restrict students to a single athletic per season at Duncan Middle School.
Firstly, doing diverse athletic activities helps physical and skill development. Different sports offer many skills like football and basketball including teamwork while tennis or swimming helps individual discipline.
Besides physical work, students learn time management, prioritization, and discipline as they balance practices, games, academics and personal commitments.
Second, participating in multiple sports can significantly boost student engagement and enjoyment.
The variety can prevent boredom and help students stay active. Plus students can hang out with different social circles. It also helps allowing them to connect with a wider range of teammates and coaches, fostering a richer sense of community and belonging within the school environment.
Lastly, students pursuing two sports concurrently is not merely about athletic achievement. It helps physical diversity, life skills, and enhances overall student engagement, ultimately contributing to more adaptable, disciplined, and well-adjusted young individuals ready to thrive in various aspects of life.
All of these reasons are why students should be able to play two sports at a time per school season.
