There is heavy debate about which genre of music Treaty Oak Revival fits into., with some people saying country or rock.
Since people cannot agree on the genre, people have started coming up with their own genres for TOR, including “Southwest country,” “degenerate rock” and even “emo country.”
Treaty Oak Revival is a band that formed in West Texas in 2019.
The band consists of lead singer Sam Canty, who also plays the acoustic guitar; rhythm guitarist and background vocalist Lance Vanley, who joined band when the band members decided they needed a second guitar player; lead guitarist Jeremiah Vanley, who is Lance Vanley’s uncle; drummer Cody Holloway, who (aside from Canty) is the only other remaining original member of TOR; and lead bass player Dakota Hernandez, who joined the band in 2024.
Treaty Oak Revival really took off in early 2020 with their album “No Vacancy,” which contained a song of the same title. TOR’s most popular song is “Missed Call,” which gained traction in late 2020.
They dropped an album titled “West Texas Degenerate,” which is their most popular album yet. The album gained heavy traction in the middle of 2025.
Despite all the popularity surrounding Treaty Oak Revival, the debate about the band’s genre continues. However, I believe the band’s genre is Midwest emo.
