Duncan Middle School’s NJHS chapter is officially the president-elect for the 2026-27 school year.

The National Junior Honor Society chapter received this distinction during the Oklahoma Association of National Junior Honor Societies (OANJHS) state conference, which took place March 9 and 10 in Lawton. The conference was hosted by this year’s president school, Elgin Middle School, and had around 250 NJHS members from across the state in attendance.
The first day took place at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and at Laugh Out Loud. The second day took place at the FISTA.
As the president-elect school, Duncan Middle School will host the state conference in March 2028. Next year’s NJHS membership, including the incoming officers, will start the planning phase of the 2027-28 conference.
During this year’s conference, all 12 DMS NJHS officers (including the six current eighth-grade officers and the six seventh-grade, officer-elects) were in attendance. Some attended one day but not the other, as conflicts with sports arose.
Parker Sanders, DMS NJHS president, said that he enjoyed the conference.
“I got some very good notes to use,” Sanders, an eighth-grade student, said.
He said that his favorite thing that happened was just listening to all the people speak. He said that he would change to less talking and more teaching.
He said he learned about things, such as peer pressure. He said it was fun because he had friends to hang out with.
Seventh-grade student Yoselin Ontiveros said she also liked the conference and thought it was fun.
Ontiveros, who is the secretary-elect for the DMS NJHS, said one of her favorite parts of the conference was the blanket-making, service project, where she got to talk to cool and chill people.
Lily Reza, another seventh-grade officer, said she thought the conference was fun. Reza, the treasurer-elect, said she also thought the blanket-making project was also fun.
She said that the thing she learned was that first impressions are really important.
In addition to be selected as the president-elect school, Duncan Middle School received the Honor Council Award, which is the top award a chapter can get at the state level.
