Duncan Middle School was one of many schools across the United States that celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week.
The week was celebrated from May 5 to last Friday.
JD Gdanski, seventh grader, is the son of seventh-grade English teacher Whitney Gdanski.
JD Gdanski said Teacher Appreciation Week is to “celebrate his favorite teachers.”
He celebrates by asking his mom for the snow cone that she got from the DMS principals.
“Teacher Appreciation Week was important because they (teachers) need to be appreciated for all the things they have to put up with,” Gdanski said.
Joni Blackburn, sixth-grade social studies teacher, said Teacher Appreciation Week can be a reminder of what teachers do for students and parents throughout the school year.
“It’s a nice time of year to recognize our teachers,” Blackburn said.
To Blackburn, it is important to celebrate it so the good teachers can remain in school. She celebrates by going around and telling the teachers that they are doing well.
Noah Bolling, an eighth grader, said that Teacher Appreciation Week is when you appreciate your teachers.
“It’s important because they need appreciation for all the kids they have to deal with,” Bollig said.
He celebrates by being nice to teachers.
Reavis Hammond, seventh-grade math teacher, said that Teacher Appreciation Week recognizes teachers for their hard work.
“Teacher Appreciation Week is important because it can be a tiring job, so knowing teachers are appreciated helps,” Hammond said.
He elaborated on being thankful for the snow cones and the gifts.
