After months of practice, the Duncan Middle School cheerleaders got to show off their skills Tuesday night, when the DMS football teams played their first games at Halliburton Stadium.
The cheerleaders got an opportunity to cheer for both seventh-grade and eighth-grade football teams, as they faced off against Lawton Ike, the eight-grade game being a nailbiter.
Even through the ups and downs of each game, the cheerleaders were there to support their teams along the way.
“My favorite part about my teammates is that I’m comfortable around them,” Bricelyn Brown, eighth-grade cheerleader, said.
Brown thinks this cheer season is going to be good, but she is still nervous. She said that he has enjoyed cheerleading because everyone brings each other up.

She has been cheering for four years and plans to continue cheering through high school.
Even though cheerleading may look easy to some, Brown said there are plenty of challenges when it comes to be a part of the cheer squad.
“The hardest part of cheering is stunting because you have to lift someone up,” Brown said.
Izabel Millan, a seventh-grade cheerleader, is in her first year on the cheer squad, and so far she is having a great time.
Millan said one of her favorite parts about the team is how everyone is encouraging.
“The best part about cheer is showing what we’ve learned,” she said.
Brooklyn Richards, eighth-grade cheerleader, said practice takes a lot of hard work and commitment.
Richards has been cheering for two years, and she thinks this season will go well and will be filled with hard work.
“The hardest part about cheer is adjusting and learning new dances,” she said.
Millan said cheer practices require the team members to get into formation and listen to what the coach tells them to do.
Brown said practices are designed to help the team get better.
“An average practice consists of warmups, cheers, stunts, and band dances,” Brown said.
