The eighth grade athletes in Duncan Middle School are now preparing for high school sports next year as freshmen. Many eighth grade students have said they are very excited for their first year in high school. Layton Toomey, an eighth grader who plays basketball, football, and baseball thinks it’s going to be fun moving into high school sports. “I feel like I’m about to get dominated by seniors because they are grown men, and I’m just a freshman.” Toomey said. “What I need to work on to be or do better in high school sports is my weight and I need to get faster.” He thinks the hardest part is the age gap. His goal for moving into high school sports is to be on varsity. How he can achieve that goal is he could fix his attitude, and have a better relationship with the coaches. “ The most important thing about moving into high school sports is realizing you need to adapt.” Toomey said.
Zander Van Bebber, likes moving into high school sports so far. He plays football, baseball, and wrestling. “The hardest part about moving into high school sports is getting suplexed by a senior,” “the reason I think that is because I’m a freshman.” He thinks that the most important thing about moving into high school sports is getting experience. Evelyn Cruz, feels good about moving into high school sports because there’s different coaches up at the high school. “The hardest part about moving into high school sports is playing with the older girls.” Cruz said. “Why I think that is because it’s different from playing with the girls you know.” She thinks she needs to work on her attitude to do/ be better to move into high school sports. Her goal for moving into high school sports is to get a starting spot during soccer season. How she could achieve this goal is to work hard. “The most important thing about moving into high school sports is having the right mindset.” Cruz said. The eighth graders at DMS are ready for a new change, and are ready for high school sports.
