Duncan Middle School’s baseball team hosted a festival, despite part of the competition being canceled and the team not meeting its goals.
The Duncan Baseball Festival was held April 2 with the DMS players headed there after second hour. Originally, the team was to head out before first hour, but junior varsity’s game was moved. The festival took the rest of the day.
“My goal was to win at the festival,” but we lost,” eighth-grade player Zander Van Bebber said.
Van Bebber said the event was originally supposed to be multiple days, but some of the games were canceled. He said he thinks the team would have done better with more game play at festival.
The baseball players will be heading the Tuttle Festival in the near future. They have already played in the Marlow Festival.
Van Bebber said that even though Duncan lost at the April 2 festival, the team tried its best. He said he needs to improve on hitting, but he did feel prepared for festival because he had worked hard.
“If I could have changed anything, it would have been us losing,” Van Bebber said.
Seventh-grade, baseball player Matthew Hopson thought the festival went alright.
Similarly to Van Bebber, Hopson had the same goal, which was to win the festival. He said the team had areas that needed to be improved before it could win something like the festival. His area needing to be improved was also hitting, he said.
“I felt prepared because I’m him and because of Coach Longest,” Hopson said. “ If I could have changed anything, it would have been better communication as a team.”
The team might not have won at festival, but several recent games have ended in victory.
