The Duncan Middle School softball team is about to wrap up a successful season.
The team has won 10 games and lost three. The most recent game was against Elgin, and junior varsity and varsity both walked away with wins.
“People need a great mindset for softball,” seventh-grade Lillie Goble said. “It’s really just a mind game.”
Goble, who plays centerfield, has played the game for eight or nine years.
Zabry Ross, another seventh-grade softball player, has been playing the sport for two years. Ross has several positions on the team, including left field, right field and center field.
She there is some pressure associated with being part of the team, especially game days.
“How I handle pressure in a game, is I just take a deep breath,” Ross said.
This year, the teams are being coached by Kaitlin Anderson, who joined the DMS teaching staff this year as an eighth-grade social studies teacher.
“My coaching style is everything on hop,” Anderson said.
As a new coach to DMS, Anderson brings her own experience as a player, which she played when she was in high school. She said her expectations include for players to be respectful to others.
She said her primary goal as a coach is to put the players in a position to be successful.
“ The funnest part about being a coach is winning the games and tournaments,” Anderson said.
While things may be starting to wrap up for the season, the softball girls aren’t done yet. In fact, they are looking at a busy week.
This afternoon, the softball teams will be facing off against Lawton Mac, starting at 5 p.m. at home. On Tuesday, softball will be heading to Comanche to take on the Indians at 5 p.m. Thursday, softball will go against Lawton Ike at 4:30 p.m. at Ike. Wrapping up the week, softball will be participating in the Duncan Festival.
