The Oklahoma State University football coach is out.
The coach in question, Mike Gundy, was recently fired by OSU after serving as head football coach for the last 20 years. From 2001 until his promotion 2005, Gundy served as the offensive coordinator for the OSU Cowboys.
Rizden Ray, an eigthth-grade DMS student, said he likes OSU, which is where his dad went for college.
Ray said he likes Gundy but felt Gundy’s winning days were behind him. He said he thinks poor recruitment and a lack of winning games contributed to Gundy being fired.
“I don’t think that Mike Gundy getting fired will affect the season at all,” Ray said.
He isn’t alone in thinking Gundy made a positive impact on the OSU football program.
“How I feel about Gundy, he’s the G.O.A.T,” Toomey said.
The reason he thinks that Gundy got fired is because the past two season were rough.
Toomey feels that Gundy’s departure will affect the season to 1-11. He also hopes that the new coach will win OSU some games.
As much as he likes Gundy, he does think it was time for him to go.
For Lola Ibarra, another eighth-grade student, Gundy leaving OSU is a sad moment, and she thinks the players will be disappointed.
She said her parents went to Oklahoma State University.
Ibarra said she feels bad for him, and she still likes him. She also hopes the new coach works hard for the team and for the program, and connects well with the fans.
“I feel like he got fired because he wasn’t putting his all in and wasn’t spending money for better players,” Ibarra said.
Gundy was fired after three games this season, ending his tenure on Sept. 23.
According to the Oklahoma State University Football website, “Gundy is one of 10 coaches in college football history to record 18 consecutive winning seasons at one school, setting the mark from 2006-23. OSU’s streak of 18 straight bowl games and 18 straight winning seasons was the best in the history of the program.”
