If you talk to the DMS teachers, the south parking lot has been in need to some work for a while, especially when it comes to repainting the lines.

And thanks to Mark Monteith’s life management classes, the parking lot dreams are becoming a reality.
Monteith’s classes are using their skills to repaint the parking lot, as part of a hands-on project. But they’re not just repainting the existing lines, they are measuring and widening the spaces.
“Mrs. (Cassie) Berthold rocks,” Monteith said about the DMS principal. “She gave us money, but we have invested about 500 minutes in this project.
Work on the parking lot started in November. However, because of cold temperatures and rainy weather, work has paused for the time being.
Bryson Brooks, an eighth-grade student, is in one of Monteith’s life management classes that is working on the project.
“We’re repainting it and making people better,” Brooks said.
He said he likes being part of the refurbishment project.
“I think it’s really good,” Brooks said. “I like helping. It can be fun sometimes.”
He thinks the project will be appreciated by the teachers once completed.
Mckinley Giles, another eighth-grade student in life management, said she thinks the project is worthwhile.
“We’re painting the lines,” Giles said. “It will help benefit by making more space for the teachers. I think the teachers will appreciate that we’re doing it.”
She said another project that the life management classes should tackle is the DMS restrooms.
Cason Baker, another eighth-grader, said he the project will help teacher’s with their parking, especially since many of the lines had worn away.
“”It’s kind of fun to be honest,” Baker said. “We’re doing it by choice. I think the parking lot needed it. I think the teacher will appreciate it because they need it.”
He said there is more work needing to be done at the middle school.
“Everything in the school needs to be updated because it’s old and needs to be updated,” Baker said.
