Swim season is officially over, and the DMS swim team made waves by breaking records.
The DMS swim team has its last meet was on Dec 5, which ended with a conference in Edmond. Edmond was where most of the meets took place this year.
“They worked very hard to earn their records and deserve all of the records they broke,” swim coach Deven Speed said. “For the people who didn’t break records, this will encourage them to work harder to earn a record and be good at swimming.”
During the season, Mollie May, Ryan Snavely and Zander Huff broke several swim records.
“I feel good and proud of myself for breaking records,” May, an eighth-grader, said.
Abby Leonard, who is the assistant swim coach, said she thinks the players swam well and did their best. Leonard said she was amazed by the team members and thought they deserved to break their records.
May felt encouraged by her success this season. She said there were several things swimmers could do to improve.
“Eat right, work hard and have a good mindset,” May said.
May joined the swim team because she liked swimming.
Swimmer Walker Leonard, a DMS eighth-grader, also joined the swim team because he liked the sport. He said he also learned a lot from being on the swim team and had words of advice to share with swimmers or any potential swimmers.
“Just practice harder and try your best,” Walker Leonard said.
Although Natalie McNabb, seventh-grade swimmer, didn’t set any records this season, she said breaking a swim record is something she can work toward next year.
“I will work harder to win a record and be a better swimmer,” McNabb said.
With the end of the season, swimmers will either be moving into another sport, off-season or civics class.
