Soccer has officially started, and soon game play will get underway.
Soccer, which is a spring sport, kicked off its season Jan. 6, the first day of the second semester at Duncan Middle School. And many of the soccer players are ready for the season.
Milly Hernandez, an eighth-grader, is ready for the upcoming season.
”I am excited for this upcoming season because I like to mentor new players and seventh-graders,” Hernandez said.
Mark Hays is the boys soccer coach for Duncan Middle School.
“Something my team needs to improve before the season starts is working together confidently and not thinking that they need to do everything individually,” Hays said.
Brooklynn Williams, a seventh-grade player, said has been playing soccer for four years.
“I play a sport I love,” Williams said.
Many players have been playing for four or more years including Ivan Camarillo, who has been playing for 11 years.
Like many of the other players, Joaquin Gutierrez, a seventh-grader, is passionate about the sport.
“There is nothing bad about soccer, but if I have to name one thing it would be getting scored on or losing a game I played really hard in,” Gutierrez said.
However, many players can name many good things about soccer.
Williams thinks the best thing about soccer is making a goal or assisting a goal. Camarillo thinks being with his team is one of best things he can do in soccer.
“The best thing about soccer is hanging out with my teammates because they are very fun to hang out with and fun to play soccer with,” Camarillo said.
Since the school let the soccer teams borrow equipment like balls and cones, Gutierrez thinks that players should treat the equipment well and not ruin the equipment.
Hernandez is hoping for a great soccer season.
“I hope that I can mentor the seventh-graders and new players to improve their soccer skills,” she said. “I hope I can improve my soccer skills as well.”
