Jeffrey, who was one of the sixth-graders who attended the leadership trip, said there were about 120 people in attendance. She said the students were put into groups, according to the color that was on their name tags.
In addition to middle school students, there were about 80 high school students in attendance, too.
Cambria Starr-Meacham, seventh-grader, also went to the training. Starr-Meacham said said that each of those small groups visited different stations.
“It really helped my mind in a way,” she said.
She said there were a lot of things she learned and were interested in.
Delaney Ward, an eighth-grade student, said there were a lot of people in attendance. Ward said the event was lead and organizaed by Duncan Superintendent Channa Byerly and Duncan High School students.
She said that each station was designed to help the middle schoolers develop leadership skills.
“It made me realize, I can be a light in this school,” Ward said.
Jeffrey said she was intested in public speaking, which was one of the four stations available. The other stations were positivity, school spirit and friendship.
