It’s a new semester and the start of track season.
Track practice officially started on Jan. 6, which was the first day of the second semsester at Duncan Middle School.
Kaydence Swenstad, seventh-grader, said she is excited for the start of track season.
“I am excited to be with my friends and to stay active,” Swenstad said.
Eighth-grader Parker Sanders is also ready for track season.
Sanders initially joined the track team because his sister, Paisley.
“I joined because my sister got me into track, and after one year of running track I found it very fun,” he said.
Sanders said track has a lot to offer different participants.
“There are many events you can run, and there is an event for everyone,” he said.
Some of the events middle school students can participate in include the 400 meter, 300 meter, hurdles, 100 meter hurdles and 4×4 relay race.
James Boles, seventh-grader, said he is hoping for a great season.
“I hope we can win some meets and everyone has a great season without getting injured this season,” Boles said.
Because the season is just getting underway, some team members are still participating in wrestling and basketball. But as those seasons draw to a close, the size of the track team will continue to grow.
The first track meets won’t be until sometime in March, but the players have started practicing to work on conditioning and to find ways to improve.
There are many reasons for the players to be excited for the start of the season, but one of the main reasons is their teammates. Swenstad said she knows her teammates are helpful, especially in when it comes to getting her to reach her full potential.
“They really help me push myself to my limits and grow better on the track field,” she said.
