Golf season is getting underway at Duncan Middle School, and the golfers are looking forward to success.
This year, the coaches for golf are Kaitlin Anderson, Eddie Mullins and Robert Cowan. Anderson and Mullins are teachers at Duncan Middle School.
Mason Sorrels, an eighth grader, is a member of the golf team because he finds the sport to be fun.
“The hardest part about golf is the first tee box.,” Sorrels said. “My goal for this season is to place well and shoot low.”
His advice for other players is to stay positive no matter what. His best club to use is his five iron.
Sorrels started playing golf in sixth grade, so he’s played for two years.
“I’m excited for the season,” Sorrels said. “I’ve been practicing a lot.”
Another eighth-grader who plays golf is Corben Purcell Purcell plays golf because he thinks the sport is fun and he is good at it.
“The hardest part is to have fun while playing bad,” Purcell said.
His advice for others is to go out there and have fun.
His goal for this season is to shoot low 80s and high 70s. How he could achieve this goal is putting work in at practice. His best golf club to use is the putter.
He started playing in fifth grade, so he’s been playing for 4 years.
“Sometimes it is hard but when you are having fun it is easy,” Purcell said. “I’m excited for this season because the varsity team will have some good players this year.”
Sorrels had similar thoughts about being excited for this season.
Golf started practicing in January. The first golf match will be March 10. Girls golf is slated to play March 11 in Duncan.
