Student Council has been planning the latest school dance, which will serve as a fundraiser for the organization.
The Colors Dance is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the DMS gym. This is the second and final dance for the school year; the first dance was hosted by the DMS Office.
“I’m really excited for it, and I’m planning on going,” Student Council Vice President Bella Christian said. “I’m gonna dress up in a dress, and I’m going with friends. I’m not taking anyone with me. I’m going with friends and planning on being with my friends.”
To make decisions about the dance, the Student Council had some members meet as a dance committee. The committee chose the theme and brought it to the Student Council for approval.
In previous years, the themes for the Student Council dances have included Valentine’s Day, Out of This World (space) and Mardi Gras.
Entry into the dance will be 5 dollars. However, there are some requirements before students can attend. Students must be passing all their classes, as of Monday’s eligibility list. Students cannot have ISI or be suspended at any point during the week of the dance. Students must also wear clothes that adhere to the student dress code.
“I think that the eligibility list is good,” Christian said.
Brooklyn Richards, Student Council secretary, said she will be attending the dance and does have someone she is planning to go with.
“I’m mainly going with friends,” Richards said. “Really the only reason I’m going is to hangout with friends.’”
In addition to the Student Council-hosted dance, the NJHS group will have a concession during the dance. The concession stand will be set up with drinks, candy and chips. All sales from the concession will help fund NJHS projects, including next week’s upcoming Read Across America program.
The DJ for the evening will be Charm’n Music Group.
