Pyston Bench has been ready for tennis season to start. After all, his who family enjoys the sport.
“I would recommend this for others because it helps you get into shape, and it’s just a fun sport to play,” Bench, a sixth-grade tennis player, said.
Tennis season has returned to Duncan Middle School, and the tennis players are already working toward success. This year, the tennis team is under leadership of coaches Abby Leonard and Kathryn Jeffords.
Leonard said tennis is her favorite sport to play, which is exactly why she is now coaching the sport. This is her third year to coach tennis.
“My advice for my players is make it fun,” she said, “I would recommend this for others because it’s a great game for mental and physical health, and it goes beyond school.”
Ansley Covington, eighth-grade tennis player, loves the sport.
Covington said the thinks tennis is fun, and she’s good at it.
“My advice for others is even when you are struggling, don’t give up and try your best,” Covington said. “My goal for this season is to make it on the team and practice outside of school so I can get even better.
“I could go to the tennis courts with my friends and practice on what we are struggling with so I can meet my goal.”
Covington has experience with tennis, having played for two years.
“The hardest thing about tennis is the sprints we do but I like a challenge.”
Bench also has experience playing the sport, similarly to Covington.
He said his goal for the season is to get first place in the tournaments. He said he could meet this goal by working hard.
“The hardest part about tennis is serving.” Bench said.
Duncan Middle School set to play tennis on Wednesday.
