Duncan Middle School is gearing up for cheer tryouts.
Tryouts are scheduled for April 3. However, there are dates following the actual tryouts.
Cheerleaders have to turn in their application by March 27. On the same day, the parent meeting will be held in the DMS cafeteria. On April 2nd, the mock tryouts will be held. The following day, the actual tryouts will take place.
Iza Millan ,a seventh-grader, thinks the tryouts will go well and she will do well.
“I think I’ll make the team because I am used to the material,” Millan said.
She is excited for the next cheerleading season. She enjoyed her first season of cheerleading at the DMS, and she hopes for the best for next season.
Her favorite part of cheer was tumbling and screaming, so she is excited to do all of that next year.
Jazlyn Rodas, a sixth-grader is excited to try out for the first time.
“I am a little nervous because I am scared of not making the team,” Rodas said.
Rodas is looking forward to making new friends and having fun with her teammates. She is excited to try out and hopefully makes the team.
“I hope the cheerleaders aren’t rude and they help me get better at cheerleading,” she said.
Kaitlyn Nguyen, another seventh-grader, is excited for next year’s season.
“I had a lot of fun at the football games because I loved performing at them,” Nguyen said.
Nguyen thinks that the cheer team was very fun and the team was very supportive by helping her get better at cheer. She thinks the hardest thing about cheerleading is tumbling and being loud. She hopes next year cheerleaders are supportive and are kind as this year.
The cheerleaders who tried out and make the team will be the cheerleaders for the 2026-2027 school year.
