National Junior Honor Society has chosen its new leadership for next year.
The DMS seventh-grade NJHS officers were elected by the NJHS membership on Oct. 7.
While four of the six officer positions were unopposed, two people were vying for president and two were vying for vice president. In the end, one person was elected to each position.
Those elected include:
- President-elect: Elliot Fiorillo
- Vice President-elect: Lillie Goble
- Secretary-elect: Yoselin Oniveros
- Treasurer-elect: Lily Reza
- Historian/Reporter-elect: Brooklynn Williams
- Parliamentarian-elect: Anniston Phillips
“I wish to do my best,” Fiorillo said. “And I hope that this year is going be amazing, and I hope that this year is going be the best year that there is.
“I’m going make sure everyone’s voice is heard and that everyone gets a say in the meetings.”
The seventh-grade officers will serve in an elect capacity for the rest of this year before being sworn in during a ceremony in May. The eighth-grade officers currently conduct the meetings.
Ontiveros said she is excited about her new position within the Duncan Middle School NJHS.
“I’m feeling happy and that I’m going be responsible,” she said. “I’m going be a good secretary and going be good with time management. I’m going to keep track of everything.
“I’m hoping do my best this year, and I’m going put all my effort into it.”
Williams, Phillips and Reza said they were excited to be part of the NJHS officer team. Although each said they understood their new roles, but all new officers will go through a training in August, prior to the first meeting of the year.
“I’m feeling good,” Williams said. “I’m going to make NJHS amazing.”
Reza said she is going to help keep track of money, but she is also looking forward to interacting with their NJHS peers.
“(I’m) going to help people by being encouraging,” she said. “I’m going to put all my effort into it. It’s my goal to help everyone.”
As the incoming vice president, Goble said she’s ready to take on the challenges that come with the office.
“I’m excited that I won,” Goble said. “I’m going to put all my effort into it, and I’m going to be the best vice president and make sure everyone’s voices are heard.”
