The boys and girls basketball competed in the Blanchard Tournament last Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Although the tournament didn’t go the way the team members were hoping, each walked away with new knowledge about their skills and the areas needing to be improved.
“I think the tournament went pretty bad,” eighth-grader Sam Johnson said. “For me to improve, I need to get in the game more.”
Johnson said there were plenty of areas the team could improve to help the teammates do better in future tournaments.
He said, for the team to improve, everyone needs to slow down. He said he didn’t think the team was prepared enough.
Evelyn Cruz, another eighth-grader, said the girls participation in the Blanchard Tournament was similar to the experience the boys team had.
“The tournament was terrible,” Cruz said.
She said she needed to improve her attitude, but thought she did her best during the tournament. She wasn’t sure where the team needed to improve.
Johnson and Cruz said their teams did practice a lot leading up to the tournament.
The girls team placed fourth, while the boys team placed seventh in the tournament.
Jaylee Hornbeak, another eighth-grader, said the team wasn’t prepared enough going into the Blanchard Tournament. Hornbeak said it was also weird that the tournament took place the first week after Christmas Break.
“I feel like the tournament didn’t go as well as it could have,” Hornbeak said. “We practiced a lot over the break.”
She said she felt like she could have done better during the tournament, but also said that attitude could also impact the outcome.
This year’s boys basketball coach is Jordon Dotson. The girls coach is Kaitlin Anderson.
